RALLY OF TANZANIA - END OF RALLY - Sunday 11th February 2007 - 15.15 pm
Japanese Hideaki Miyoshi and Hakaru Ichino led from start to finish to win the Alliance Insurance Rally of Tanzania in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo9 in Dar-es-salaam today.
Miyoshi won both Legs of the rally and took full bonus points for the African championship ahead of Asad Anwar and Nicholas Patel of Kenya. Anwar fought bacl from 4th to second taking the last 18 seconds on the final stage, driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo9. Mitsubishi take maximum points in this first round of the ARC.
Lola and Megan Verlaque took 3rd place and 2006 champion Patrick Emontspool was 4th Overall.
Conrad Rautenbach broke another suspension and had 3 punctures in the long 80km stage putting paid to his fight for the lead and finished 5th Overall.
First Tanzanian was Gamdust Haji in 6th Place.

RALLY OF TANZANIA - END OF LEG 1 - Saturday 10th February 2007 - 17h35
Japanese Hideaki Miyoshi and Hakaru Ichino stormed the Alliance Insurance Rally of Tanzania to lead from the start to the end of Leg 1.
Second placed Conrad Rautenbach and Peter Marsh from Zimbabwe were second 4:01 minutes behind after a trye burst and the bolt on the rear control arm came loose and fell out. Lola and Megan Verlaque from South Africa were third after their car just died over one of the jumps giving them a fright so they never went fast over jumps again.
Asad Anwar and Nicholas Patel were 4th driving on used tyres and a broken windscreen.
Early pace setters Omar Bakressa and Ahmed Hewul of Tanzania set equal fastest 1st stage times but then Omar broke a front lower control arm and Ahmed lost his clutch.
Muna Singh of Zambia broke his centre diff and Jamie Whyte of Zimbabwe broke an engine mounting. Tanzanian Shaun Miller retired with a broken rear diff.
The rally was run over 4 stages and a distance of 174 km about 60km South East of Dar es Salaam.
The Second Leg starts at 07h00 tomorrow morning and finishes by 14h30 in Daressalaam.
Miyoshi takes the 3 bounus points for winning Leg 1 and Conrad - 2 points and Lola 1 point under the new Super Rally rules introduced in 2007.
